Corporate
Volunteering
"You'll find that employees walk
a little better down the halls of your company
when you've encouraged them to help a neighbor
in need. There's nothing like giving a little
bit of yourself to enrich your life. And when
the person's life is enriched, so is the company
as a whole." -Remarks by President
George W. Bush during launch of Business Strengthen
America, December 10, 2002.
Today, many forward thinking businesses
are striving for positive corporate citizenship.
As part of their efforts, some are encouraging
to volunteer. Corporate support of volunteerism
is linked to improvements in profitability,
productivity, and team building.
Surveys indicate that 48% of companies make
volunteer programs part of their company's
business plan. In addition, companies engaged
in community involvement tend to retain employees
at a much higher level than those that don't.
Corporate volunteering allows people to contribute
skills and knowledge to a not-for-profit organization
and actively participate in the community.
In short, it makes people feel good.
