This experiment allows visitors to "freeze" the action of a rotating string & see how things move in waves. Follow the "Monkeys" as monkey see, monkey do!

By adjusting the speed at which the strobe is flashing and/or the tension of the string, the visitor can create different visual patterns.

  What's Happening Here?
Children learn how things move in waves, the effect of rotation and how light/flashing light can create different visual patterns.

Discovery Questions:

What happens when you tighten/turn the buttons? Can you make the "waves" look bigger/smaller? How do you "freeze"/stop the string?
