One
of the first exhibits you encounter as you
walk through our gallery doors is a giant
puzzle. This body-on Rope Maze consists of
several ropes of different colors criss-crossed
together to make a spatial puzzle. Children
need to remove their shoes and take a colored
rope. Fasten the rope to the same color in
the maze and follow it by finding a way through
the jumble to the end, climbing over and under
the other ropes.

What's
Happening Here?
Children will expend energy -- YEA!
-- and practice gross motor skills,
learn & practice balance & hand-eye
coordination, and spatial thinking skills.
Discovery Questions:
Have they ever encountered or played
in a maze before? Have they solved a
puzzle like this on paper? Is it easier
to go one direction or another, left
or right, front to back, etc? Do they
see a pattern in how they are solving
or moving in the maze?
